Tonya’s House received an anonymous $5,000 donation Oct. 22, and board members are thrilled that Tonya’s House has received such generosity in the current economic climate.

Tonya’s House Director Sondra Kerby received the donation through the mail on Oct. 22, and said the same anonymous donor has made annual – and sometimes bi-annual – donations to the organization for several years now.

“We are so appreciative of this generous donor,” said Tonya’s House Board Chairman Chris Burford, “especially in these tough economic times. It’s donations like these that show us how important Tonya’s House is to our community.”

The donation will go into the organization’s general fund.

Tonya’s House provides a home and services for homeless and at-risk teenage girls. Tonya’s House creates an environment where these girls can focus on their education, life skills, health care and reuniting with their families. Tonya’s House coordinates with a variety of local service providers to develop treatment programs and life skills training for residents. The organization was founded by ElRae Wells in 2001, and now has funding support from Greater Oregon Behavioral Health, Inc. Tonya’s House also relies upon grants and donations from the local community.
