Tonya’s House receives anonymous $15,000 donation
Tonya’s House received an anonymous $15,000 donation Jan. 2, and board members are ecstatic that Tonya’s House continues to receive such support from the community.
Tonya’s House Director Sondra Kerby received the donation on Jan. 2, and said she’s thrilled to start off the new year on such a positive note.
“We are so appreciative of the outstanding support of our community and this generous donor,” said Tonya’s House Board Chairman Chris Burford. “It’s donations like these that show us how important Tonya’s House is to our community and to the girls that we serve.”
The donation will go into the organization’s general fund.
At the Tonya’s House regular board meeting Tuesday night, Kerby detailed all the 2009 donations to the non-profit organization, which included more than $2,200 in cash donations and over $4,000 in in-kind and other donations.
Tonya’s house depends on numerous donations throughout the year from our community, including in-kind donations, toiletries, household items and other essentials. In 2009, Tonya’s House received numerous donations from individuals around the Umatilla County community, as well as local businesses and organizations. These have included the Salvation Army, St. Anthony Hospital, Palmer Roofing, Housecraft Building and Renovation, Hamley’s, Wal-Mart, Agape House, First Methodist Church, D&B Supply, Pendleton Academies, the Philanthropic Educational Organization, and Pilot Rock High School.
Thank you to all our donors and supporters from around the community!
Tonya’s House provides a home and services for homeless and at-risk teenage girls. Tonya’s House creates an environment where these girls can focus on their education, life skills, health care and reuniting with their families. The organization coordinates with a variety of local service providers to develop treatment programs and life skills training for residents. The organization was founded by ElRae Wells in 2001, and now has funding support from Greater Oregon Behavioral Health, Inc. Tonya’s House also relies upon grants and donations from the local community.
